A sixth-form student at Stonyhurst College in Lancashire has gained a silver medal in the British Physics Olympiad, placing him among the top 300 young physicists in the country. Lukasz Zielinski has also been offered a place at Churchill College, Cambridge to read Medicine. Two other students at the Jesuit school have also received Oxbridge offers: Patrick Hoffmann has been offered a place at Trinity College to read History and Joe Weld-Blundell hopes to study Engineering at Oxford. Joe is a descendant of Thomas Weld, who gave his Stonyhurst Grade I-listed building to the Jesuits in 1794, when the school relocated to England from the continent. Stonyhurst was founded by the Jesuit Fr Robert Persons in France in 1593, when penal laws prohibited such schools in England.
