Three Catholic rites were celebrated at the Walsingham shrine in Norfolk on Saturday in the space of four hours. The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham led a pilgrimage to the village where there is an Anglican and Catholic shrine and were joined by Melkite Christians. This meant that the Western Rite was celebrated in the Chapel of the Reconciliation at noon, followed by a celebration of the Melkite Rite, which was in turn followed by the celebration of the Mass in the Ordinariate Rite. The day began with the sprinkling of holy water in the Anglican shrine where the pilgrims were welcomed by the shrine's priest Fr Stephen Gallagher, and the Catholic Rector Mgr John Armitage. Fr David Waller, chairman of the Governing Council of the Ordinariate preached a short homily before the sprinkling of the chapel. The pilgrims then processed to the Slipper Chapel and the Catholic Shrine while reciting the Rosary. After lunch, Mass was celebrated in the Chapel of Reconciliation with the Ordinary of the Ordinariate, Mgr Keith Newton, as principal celebrant.
