Former British prime minister Tony Blair met Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday during the Pontiff’s weekly audience in St Peter’s Square.Blair, who converted to Catholicism after leaving office, expressed his concern for the situation of minorities in the Middle East and offered his help. “It’s a pleasure to meet you. A real honour,” the former prime minister said. “Pray for me, don’t forget,” Pope Francis responded. “I always do, please pray for me too. I need your prayers,” Blair responded. The meeting happened on the same day as the funeral of Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, who helped Blair’s conversion from Anglicanism.
