Wedding ceremonies and receptions in England will be capped at just 15 people from Monday, the Prime Minister has announced. Announcing new coronavirus restrictions in the House of Commons, Boris Johnson said confirmed that the number of attendees allowed at weddings will be reduced from the current limit of 30, however 30 mourners will still be allowed at funerals. The restrictions come amid a rise in confirmed cases of Covid-19. Pubs, bars and restaurants will also be subject to a 10pm curfew under the new rules and indoor sports will be limited to six people. At the start of the first lockdown in March, only 10 mourners consisting of “immediate family only” were allowed at funerals. The restrictions on the hospitality sector come despite government figures showing only a relatively small number of coronavirus transmissions occur in pubs and restaurants. Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove defended the new restrictions, telling the BBC: “There is evidence that the longer venues stay open, the greater degree of social mixing that takes place. “So, placing a restriction like this is something that we've already done in parts of the country where the virus has been spreading particularly fast.”
