On October 12, pupils from all the Catholic primary schools in the Walsall deanery of the West Midlands came together at Holy Cross Catholic church, West Bromwich, to pray for vocations, writes Józef Łopuszyński. During his homily, Fr Paul Moss referred to Pope Benedict’s Hyde Park message to young people, and encouraged everyone to reflect on what God is asking of them. One young boy from St Mary’s the Mount school was so engrossed by the homily that he put his hand up in anticipation of a coming question, even before the vocations director had asked it. After Mass, Fr Moss said: “It was a real joy and a pleasure to be able to come to Holy Cross church tonight and to celebrate this annual vocations Mass for the Walsall deanery. “It was a wonderful occasion and I think above all I’d remark upon tonight’s prayerfulness, both the young people, teachers and parents were very clearly in a prayerful way tonight and it was wonderful.” Cath Amos, headmistress of St Mary’s the Mount, was also present. She said: “We meet six times a year to promote vocations in the diocese and we hold a number of activities and events. The next event is the Eastertide service which will be led by St Thomas of Canterbury, Walsall.”
