The Archbishop of Glasgow has spoken of his shock following the murder of a Muslim shopkeeper in Glasgow last week, after he wished Christians a happy Easter online. Asad Shah, an Ahmadi Muslim, was stabbed to death after his comments were seen by hardline Islamists. Mr Shah’s message was: “A very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation … Let’s follow the real footsteps of beloved holy Jesus Christ." Archbishop Philip Tartaglia released the following statement following the murder of Mr Asad Shah: “The murder of Mr Shah has shocked everyone. The outpourings of sympathy following his death are a tribute to him – they have come from Christians, Muslims, people of other faith traditions and those of no faith. He was man who valued and respected everyone in his community. It is vital that his example of friendship, peace and brotherhood prevails."
