Botswana’s Bishop Frank Nubuasah of Gaborone has written a letter mourning the loss of his friend George Floyd, who died at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. Bishop Nubuasah said that he had come to know Mr Floyd and his family in the 1990s when living in the United States. The bishop remembered Mr Floyd as a big-hearted person who would "run a mile for anyone". George Floyd was laid to rest on Tuesday in his home city of Houston, Texas. His death ignited protests across America and beyond after footage emerged of a white Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling for over 8 minutes on the neck of the unarmed African American who could be heard crying "I can't breathe". Bishop Nubuasah, reflecting on the killing of his friend, said that he "never thought humans can stoop so low." But he added that Mr Floyd had been granted "one more task": to welcome into heaven those responsible for his death and to "show ‘em round the jolly place".
