Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey is offering COVID-19 testing in the city of New Brunswick. The testing will take place at the Diocese of Metuchen’s Unity Square from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who choose to receive the rapid test are advised to refrain from eating for at least a half hour before receiving the test. Unity Square, a community organizing and social concerns initiative of Catholic Charities, focuses its efforts on a neighborhood of about 6,000 low-income residents in New Brunswick. In addition to offering COVID-19 testing, it has also provided food bags to 1,000 local residents since April. Unity Square works to empower community members and catalyze change in the poorest residential neighborhood of New Brunswick, reads Catholic Charities Diocese of Metuchen’s website. Julio Coto, Catholic Charities acting executive director, said, “We are committed to the health and safety of the New Brunswick community and are pleased to partner with the City of New Brunswick and the NJ Department of Health to make COVID-19 testing accessible to Unity Square residents.” In a statement dated Dec. 11 and published Dec. 14, US Bishops approved two of the three available COVID-19 vaccines, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines were distributed to healthcare workers nationwide on Monday, USA Today reported.
