The Catholic University of America is planning a celebratory ‘Year of Sheen’ to honour the beatification of its former professor and student, Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
As a young priest, Bl Sheen first attended and then taught philosophy and theology at The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, DC, for 23 years, leaving in 1950 shortly before he was consecrated as a bishop. It was his time at CUA that saw him begin his media career with the radio programme ‘The Catholic Hour’.
The university was an official participant in Sheen’s beatification on September 24, Father Aquinas Guilbeau, O.P. told The Catholic Herald. Fr Guilbeau is CUA’s chaplain and is the vice president for mission and ministry.
