Alex Jurado, the Catholic behind the Voice of Reason YouTube channel, is denying allegations that he engaged in a sexualised relationship with an underage girl when he was 21.
The popular YouTuber is well known for his debate with leading Protestant theologian Dr James White and has appeared on Pints with Aquinas. In March this year, he also featured on the widely viewed George Janko Show.
However, in recent days he has come under scrutiny after the Protestant website Protestia published an article alleging the interaction. Protestia included screenshots of Jurado’s conversation with the underage female, as well as photos he allegedly sent of himself.
On his Instagram page, Jurado stated: “I must address the accusations that have been circulating online over the last 24 hours,” continuing, “first and foremost, the accusation that I was having an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old girl is a complete fabrication. I am treating an accusation of this magnitude with the seriousness that it deserves.”
While acknowledging that he is “a sinner who is in desperate need of God’s mercy as well as in need of the forgiveness of those whom I have offended and sinned against”, and apologising “to everyone who has been hurt, shocked and scandalised by these rumours”, Jurado states that he is prepared to “undergo legal action against those who have defamed me.”
Jurado’s defence comes in light of a retraction by the original complainant, who is the person that shared the alleged victim’s story with the media—not the alleged victim herself. The initial accusation claimed the victim was 14 years old; however, the retraction states: “I acknowledge that I cannot definitively label the victim as 14,” and that “a more accurate and appropriate terminology at this stage is to refer to the victim as a minor as a blanket term between the ages of 14–15–16.” The statement adds: “The victim has chosen not to provide identification, has declined to press charges, and has since become unresponsive.”
Jurado states that he has made his Church aware of “what is being said about me online and we have contacted the authorities.” At the time of writing, Catholic Answers, Catholic Speakers and Pints with Aquinas all appear to have removed content featuring Jurado. His appearance on The George Janko Show remains on YouTube.
