Britain’s next ambassador to the Holy See will be Sally Axworthy, according to a report in the Tablet. Ms Axworthy, who was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, is an experienced diplomat who led the Foreign Office’s North African department in a job-share since May 2013. She is married with four children. She will reportedly take over from the current ambassador Nigel Baker, who will be returning to London. She would be the second woman to hold the position. Kathryn Colvin was Britain’s ambassador to the Holy See in 2002-2005. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has declined to comment before an announcement is made.
