What was your career break?
I joined the Society of Jesus back in 1982. God has been opening doors and beckoning me to step forward ever since.
What’s your favourite Bible verse?
In Luke 19, Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus leads to such a lovely conversion and to great social good.
Which church has the most meaning to you?
The cathedral in Strasbourg, France is where I made the decision to seek admission to the Jesuits.
What holy music do you keep returning to?
Joseph Gelineau’s settings of the psalms and his hymns.
How would you say your faith has shaped your work and career?
I loved being a college professor – the classroom is a magical place to teach Theology and accompany students as they grapple with their own faith questions.
Who has been your greatest spiritual influence?
My novice master, Wilkie Au.
Who is your favourite saint?
St Ignatius of Loyola.
Where would you like to go on pilgrimage?
I was quite moved by Lourdes, Rome and Jerusalem, but Loyola in Spain is still my favourite.
What book most influenced you when you were at college?
Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
