An Israeli court has acquitted a man who attacked a nun in Jerusalem. It was ruled that West Bank settler Yona Schreiber could not be held criminally responsible due to his mental health at the time of the attack. The court ordered that Schreiber be hospitalised for up to six years, though a psychiatric committee may order his early release depending on the state of his condition.
The French Religious sister had been attacked near Mount Zion on April 28. Schreiber, after identifying that she was a Christian by her habit, ran and pushed the victim to the ground, where she struck her head. After initially walking away, her assailant returned seconds later to kick her while she was still on the ground, causing her to suffer bruising to her face and leg, before he attacked a passery who attempted to intervene.
