A whistle stop tour that seemed far longer than its brief four days, Leo XIV’s apostolic voyage to France has now come to an end. He repeatedly emphasised two chief elements throughout the trip: the sanctity of life and the importance of a deliberately lived faith.
Leo used the final public ceremonies of his voyage to point once more to the Christian foundations of Europe and the importance of staying true to those values if France wishes to flourish. It was the same theme he had enunciated ever since he landed in Paris on Friday morning, leaning into different angles depending on whether his audience was political, secular or Catholic.
