The Pope delivered strong words at a high-level meeting in France today, defending the Christian foundation and identity of Europe and calling on young people to resist the culture of death by having families.
Building on the theme of protecting life at all ages, which he has made central to his four-day visit to France, Leo XIV once again linked European identity to the Catholic faith. The Pontiff’s remarks were given at a conference entitled “To the roots of Europe for peace and unity” held in Metz, in north-eastern France. Location was poignant for the meeting, given that it was held in the hometown of Robert Schuman, recognised as one of the key founders of the conglomeration of nations which now comprises the European Union (EU).
