A Scottish man has raised more than £4,000 to help to send his terminally-ill sister to the Vatican. Darren Barber, from North Berwick in Scotland, has set up a fundraising page for his sibling who has had a complex congenital heart disorder since birth. £4,305 has been raised so far. Corrine Barber, 42, required a dual heart and lung transplant but this is no longer a viable solution and she been given a prognosis of five to twelve months to live. Corrine has stated that her dying wish is to visit the Vatican and her family have estimated that they need to raise £14,500 in order to achieve this. Darren Barber said in a statement: “Though devastated by the news Corinne has faced this with her trademark humour and unshakable faith. She has expressed a desire to visit the Vatican before it’s too late as, her faith is such a strong focus for her. I wanted more than anything to be able to make this happen, but the family simply didn’t have the means so we decided to set up a GoFundMe page to help and we have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown so far. It’s Corinne’s 42nd birthday today and this would be the best birthday present we could ever imagine giving her.”

 Darren continued: “Corinne took a great deal of persuading to allow me to pursue this avenue of help she is a private and unassuming person who dislikes attention. However, we have convinced her that this is the only way for Corinne to achieve her final wish. By our calculations we need a figure of around £14,500 of which roughly £3,000 to £5,000 is for the medical insurance required for someone in her condition. All travel would be via train, with multiple stops, as she can no longer fly.” Corrine said she was "swallowing her pride and asking for help" to make her wish come true. “Vatican City is the home of the Catholic Church, it houses the Vatican secret archives. Paintings by Michelangelo, one of the most famous artists of the renaissance. The church also has the Forbidden Index which I personally would love to see, as the best theologians of the reformation are named in this document for their heretical theological publications, which I have studied," she said. “The spiritual part is simply a pilgrimage or visit to the holy land of the Catholic Church. So today I need to swallow my pride and ask for your help to make this wish come true. When I die I have to leave the man I love behind but I don’t want to go without seeing the most holy site.”
