It’s known as one of Britain’s most venerable cathedrals: the central site of England’s second-oldest diocese, the former seat of St John Fisher, the resting-place of St Paulinus. But Rochester Cathedral is having a startling makeover.
The cathedal has built a nine-hole crazy golf course in the nave. It is funded by the Rochester Bridge Trust, and includes model bridges.
Rachel Phillips, Canon for Mission and Growth, hoped visitors would “reflect on the bridges that need to be built in their own lives and in our world today”.
The ordinariate priest Fr David Palmer, whose Anglican ordination took place in the cathedral, tweeted that the course was “an embarrassing shambles”.

A priest has spoken about a remarkable coincidence – or as he describes it, a “Godincidence”.
Fr Goyo Hidalgo, of St Philomena Parish in Carson, California, left a message on a parishioner’s phone saying: “This is Fr Goyo. I know you needed to talk. I’m here.” But he had got the wrong number, and had accidentally called a man in New York – who rang back: “I wanted to talk to a priest for a long time but I was nervous. How did you know?”
Fr Hidalgo was able to put the man in touch with a priest friend in New York.
