The Supreme Court of India has ruled that Catholics who remarry after receiving an annulment are committing an offence as such decrees have no legal standing.
Outgoing Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal has said he hopes new apostolic administrator Fr Pierbattista Pizzaballa will "totally win the confidence of the priests".
Fr Pizzaballa's appointment is "a sign of further confidence in the Friars Minor", Fr Francesco Patton, the new Custos of the Holy Land, has said.
