The Catholic Herald is seeking a full-time News Editor to join our editorial team.

This role involves shaping the direction of the publication through a mixture of writing, editing, and commissioning. The successful candidate will work closely with the editorial leadership to develop coverage, commission contributors, and produce thoughtful journalism on the Church and public life.

Applicants should have a strong knowledge of the Catholic Church and a close understanding of current affairs. Experience in journalism is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities include:

  • Writing and editing articles for digital publication
  • Commissioning and working with external contributors
  • Helping shape editorial coverage and priorities
  • Maintaining high standards of clarity, accuracy, and tone

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church
  • A solid grasp of current affairs
  • Excellent writing and editorial judgement
  • Ability to work remotely as part of an editorial team

Key responsibilities:

  • Writing regular articles and commentary
  • Commissioning and editing contributors
  • Responding to major news developments
  • Helping shape editorial coverage
  • Participating in editorial meetings


Desired Experience

The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism, commentary, or publishing, with a proven ability to write clearly and engagingly for a broad readership. Familiarity with reporting on religion, politics, culture, or public affairs would be an advantage. Applicants should also be comfortable working in a digital publishing environment and responding to developments in the news cycle.


Editorial Expectations

Applicants should have a strong knowledge of the Catholic Church and a serious interest in its role in public life. They should be able to write thoughtfully and fairly about Church affairs, culture, and current events from a Catholic perspective.
