Notre Dame prep, the Catholic school in Cobham, Surrey, has been celebrating the success of its under-12 athletics team.

The squad travelled to St Columba’s College in St Albans, Hertsfordshire, on Sunday, June 20 to defend the title which it won at St George’s College, another Catholic independent school in Surrey, last year. “They were certainly on form,” a spokesman for Notre Dame said. The under-12 team achieved nine medals: four gold, two silver and three bronze. This meant that Notre Dame was once again crowned the Girls under-12 Champions.

David Plummer, the headmaster, said: “I am thrilled with the back-to-back victory, and the girls look strong enough for a triple crown next year as most are a year young. We seem to be blessed with girls who can run, throw and jump and coaches to match the girls’ talents.”

The school is proud of its Sport for All programme which encourages all children to compete in activities related to their age and ability. Last week the girls also won eight gold and nine silver medals at the Elmbridge district athletic championships.

Notre Dame’s three-year-olds enjoy swimming, the school reports, and “golf and soccer are currently the fastest-growing sports”.
