Last night Pope Francis visited the homeless in the recently opened shelter he set up near the Vatican. The Holy Father arrived at the Gift of Mercy shelter after the fifth day of the synod ended, and spent about half an hour with the people there. The dormitory was inaugurated a few days ago by the Office of Papal Charities and is situated on the Via dei Penitenzieri, close to the Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and is supervised by the Jesuit Curia in Rome. Pope Francis was greeted by the homeless people, as well as Dom Konrad Krajewski, the papal almoner, the Superior General of the Jesuits, Fr Adolfo Nicolas, and by three nuns who also help together with the other volunteers. The 30 guests reportedly received Francis “with joy” and he spoke to each of them. Pope Francis had personally insisted on visiting the dormitory, it was reported.
