St Peter's Square will be transformed into an open air confessional for a day during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, according to reports. The event will take place on April 23, 2016, says Rome Reports, coinciding with Year of Mercy events for young people. "During the Jubilee for the youth, St Peter's Square will be transformed into a huge open air confessional. We decided to carry this out to emphasise just how much the Pope is highlighting the importance of confession, of forgiveness and mercy,” said Mgr Rino Fisichella, organiser of the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The Year of Mercy runs from December 8 to November 20, 2016. The events for young people start on April 23 with an evening festival at Rome’s Olympic Stadium, followed by a Mass said by Pope Francis in St Peter’s Square on the following day. Meanwhile, millions of pilgrims will walk through the Holy Door in St Peter's Basilica during the Year of Mercy, as a sign of spiritual renewal. "It's a pilgrimage to show one's commitment to renew the faith and to become a witness of mercy,” said Mgr Rino Fisichella.
