The week ahead: Sea Sunday, Crystal Cathedral, Carmelite Comeback

This Sunday, July 14, is Sea Sunday in Britain, a day when Christians pray for seafarers. The Catholic charity Apostleship of the Sea has resources available at apostleshipofthesea.org.uk/resources-parishes. There will be a second collection for the charity, the official agency providing chaplaincy and spiritual support for those at sea.

On Wednesday, July 17, the Diocese of Orange, California, will dedicate its new cathedral. It has been converted from a Protestant structure known as the Crystal Cathedral. It will open for daily use in February.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the British Province of Carmelites. This week, the order will be celebrating the occasion: on Sunday July 14, the Prior General, Fernando Millán Romeral, will celebrate Mass at Aylesford Priory. On Tuesday, meanwhile, the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, he will do the same at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Lampeter.
