Vatican envoy to visit Moscow
Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Gallagher is expected to visit Moscow today as part of the Vatican’s continued efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. It would be Archbishop Gallagher’s first visit to Russia since the country’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Archbishop Gallagher last visited Russia in November 2021. In April 2025, however, he spoke by telephone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss “the situation of the war in Ukraine and some initiatives aimed at stopping the military actions”.
