Trent Horn, the popular US-based Catholic apologist, has thanked supporters for their prayers during his wife’s brain surgery.

Horn had initially asked for prayers after his wife was diagnosed with cancer. Imploring the intercession of Venerable Aloysius Schwartz, on 21 July he wrote:

Lord Jesus Christ, Author of Life and Divine Physician, we thank you for the gift of your daughter, Laura. We thank you for her deep joy, humour, and contagious laughter. We thank you for her open heart and vulnerable spirit. Most of all, we thank you for the gift of her deep and abiding faith and untiring will even in the midst of trials. As members of your body, we implore you to pour abundant grace upon Laura, her entire family, and all her caregivers during this difficult time. Through the intercession of Venerable Aloysius Schwartz, we ask for the miraculous and complete healing and a lifelong remission for Laura. May the faith and Christian example of Ven. Aloysius Schwartz be spread throughout the earth, and may all glory be given to You, our Eternal King and Lord of our lives. Amen.

On 24 July he wrote to his followers:

Laura’s surgery is complete, and by the grace of God, her neurosurgeon was able to fully remove the glioma (brain tumour). We are deeply grateful for your prayers. Thank you so much for carrying her through this moment.

Trent Horn is considered one of the most gifted Catholic apologists. Raised by a Jewish father and a mother who had converted from Catholicism to Protestantism, Horn was initially sceptical of religion. During his second year of high school, he attended a Catholic youth group event and was later invited to Mass—leading him to embrace Catholicism at the age of 17.

He earned a BA in history from Arizona State University, before obtaining a master’s degree in theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2012, followed by additional master’s degrees in philosophy and bioethics from Holy Apostles College by 2018. Horn joined Catholic Answers that year as a staff apologist. He hosts the weekly podcast The Counsel of Trent (since 2019) and regularly appears on Catholic Answers Live. He has authored multiple books, including Answering Atheism, Why We’re Catholic, The Case for Catholicism, Persuasive Pro-Life, and Hard Sayings.

In addition to his broadcasting and writing, Horn serves as an adjunct professor of apologetics at Holy Apostles College, and has debated high-profile sceptics and academics at institutions such as UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, and Stanford University.

He and his wife Laura have three children and live in San Diego, California. Until last year, Laura ran a popular YouTube channel called Too Far with Laura Horn, which featured Catholic comedy. She stepped away from the channel to focus on family life.

Whilst the surgery appears to have been a success, Horn asked his followers to continue praying: “We won’t know yet how her speech and cognition were affected, and it will be 2–3 weeks before genetic testing reveals more about the risk of recurrence.”
