Congregants at Sunday morning church services in New Mexico were shocked as explosive devices detonated outside two churches. The Holy Cross Roman Catholic church in Las Cruces suffered minor damage, as did the Calvary Baptist. The blasts took place just 20 minutes and a few miles apart. New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez said: "Whoever did this will feel full pressure of the law. “Only a coward would place an explosive device in a place of peace and a place of worship.” The incident at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic church occurred as the explosive was placed in a bin outside the building. Monsignor John Anderson was helping pass Communion during the explosion. He said to the Las Cruces Sun-News: "I was right in the middle of saying the words 'take and eat, this is my body' and there was a pow!” Services were cancelled for the rest of the day at both churches. However, the Holy Cross website stated that “We are One Body and Bishop Cantu asks that we not be deterred from showing our solidarity by continuing to attend Mass.”
