The Archbishop of Milwaukee has condemned hostile protests that have broken out in the city, describing riots as a "self-inflicted wound".
The protests began after a man was fatally shot in a police shooting.
"Violence is never tolerated. Protests are certainly the right of every American, but violence such as looting, burning is never tolerated," Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki told the Milwaukee Catholic Herald in an August 15 telephone interview. "It only creates a self-inflicted wound on the community."
