Voice of Reason breaks silence on accusations

Alex Jurado, known online as Voice of Reason, has responded to allegations first reported in July by the Protestant website Protestia. The site claimed he engaged in a sexualised relationship with an underage girl, publishing screenshots of his conversations with her as well as photos he allegedly sent of himself.

In a 25-minute video released this week, Jurado denied the accusation outright. “This is not true. This is false,” he said. Explaining his silence until now, he stated that the seriousness of the claim meant “we needed to get law enforcement involved, we needed to get lawyers involved” and that “my legal counsel advised me to not say anything.” He added: “We are still in the middle of a legal process and taking legal action to clear my name so that everybody can know that this accusation is false.”

Jurado did, however, admit to sending sexually explicit messages to “grown adult women of age.” While stressing that this was not criminal, he conceded: “I did fall into the sin of lust” and acknowledged leading “others into sin.” He said he wished to “apologise to those women that I led into sin” and “everyone who saw those messages and were rightly disgusted by them because they were disgusting.” He added: “I’m going to have to spend the rest of my life in prayer and in penance to make reparation for all of the damage I’ve caused because I’ve caused a lot of damage.”

The video has been viewed almost two hundred thousand times in a day. Matt Fradd, presenter of Pints with Aquinas, commented: “Love you, mate. Offering night prayer for you.”

Jurado also admitted that his Church has been “scandalised” by his actions. A Byzantine Catholic, he has often filmed videos at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, part of the Ruthenian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Protection of Mary of Phoenix. On 16 July he was restricted from involvement in public events at his parish amid the ongoing investigation.

Bishop Artur Bubnevych of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Phoenix announced that Jurado was prohibited from “activity or involvement … occurring in any facilities of, or events being sponsored by the Eparchy of Phoenix until further notice.”

Jurado is known for his YouTube channel Voice of Reason, which features faith-based content, particularly apologetics. He is widely recognised for his debate with Protestant theologian Dr James White and has also appeared on Pints with Aquinas. In March this year, he featured on the George Janko Show.
