Emma Reynolds, Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East, was the special guest at a Mass and reception for Cafod held at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Catholic church in the city at the beginning of October, writes writes Józef Łopuszyński.
Scores of children from Catholic schools in the Wolverhampton deanery took part in the Mass, as well as a Nigerian choir.
Chief celebrant at the Mass was Bishop David McGough, who is pictured above talking to Emma Reynolds and Trevor Stockton, Wolverhampton deanery Cafod co-ordinator in the school hall after the Mass.
Bishop McGough praised the work done within the deanery in support of Cafod’s work, and also complimented the musicians who took part in the Mass. They included the choir of St Mary’s Catholic junior school, which sang Panis Angelicus, wonderfully accompanied by cellist Karl Russell and pianist John Kirk, and Pie Jesu, Dona eis Requiem. The St Mary's Catholic Junior School Choir sang "Panis Angelicus" and "Pie Jesu, Dona eis Requiem."
Emma Reynolds was full of praise. She said: “I’ve been to quite a number of Cafod events in Wolverhampton. I know Trevor Stockton personally, and they do some wonderful work here to raise issues such as global poverty, climate change, and to really raise awareness of these issues and to try and help solve some of the problems in the world, which is wonderful.”
