German Archbishop Georg Gänswein, the former private secretary to the late Pope Benedict XVI, has made his first public appearance since being sent back to his native Freiburg from the Vatican without a formal role, during which he made jokes about his unemployed status.
Last Thursday Gänswein attended the presentation of the German edition of his book Nothing but the Truth, a memoir of his years working with Pope Benedict XVI, published earlier this year in Italy shortly after the pope emeritus’s death, as well as celebrating a large public Mass.
