ROME – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed a Catholic political advocate and media figure as the next American Ambassador to the Holy See.
In nominating Brian Burch, the president of the pro-Republican CatholicVote website, Mr Trump has moved to fill the position more rapidly than any incoming or re-elected president in the last quarter-century.
The speed with which Mr Burch’s nomination was announced suggests that Mr Trump didn’t require an extensive vetting process, but he knew from the beginning whom he wanted for the job.
